Gratitude, Through The Hurt
I am not a professional writer and I barely speak good English however writing has become this thing I need to do…
In my former life my choice words for what’s going on in the world would have been “F this S!”
Now, I think I will say it internally then pray.
I feel like life has become the real life version of Grand Theft Auto and there does not seem to be any escape. So many deaths, senseless freaking deaths. God’s children are turning on each other and no one can figure out who is to blame. I see friends and family turning on each other because of differences of opinions that are really not all that different. Death, disease and more death. Anger, Hate, RAGE. Death.
Regardless of your belief system there has always been one thing universally that can heal or at the very least temporarily take our focus away from the hurt, anger, and negativity. Gratitude. Yes, even now.
We have a choice right now in this moment. Right now, as you read this you have a choice. I am not a self help guru and I even know I have a choice.
a/ I can focus on the Hell on Earth and tell myself there is no hope, no change. “We are all gonna die!” “Martial Law!” “Race Riots!” “Poverty!” “Death!” “I hate you!” “Screw Trump” “Hillary should be in Jail” “We are doomed” “F the cops”
Hate, rage, death, anger, broken.
b/ We choose to be grateful. We can choose to be grateful for what we have. No matter how much or little you have, you have something, plenty to be grateful for. It may seem cheesy and you have been told this before and I am going to tell you again. Make a list of the blessings in your life. The things you are happy for. Grateful for.. A job? A home? food? Air conditioning? Your kids? Fresh air? DVR? Your church? Your health? Your friends? Your morning jog? You won the lottery? (If you did I know of an amazing business opportunity for you, lol) Look you hopefully get my point. We have so much, even in chaos to be grateful for. Write them down, say thank you outloud, smile and then go hug someone you love, kind of love or want to love and tell them you love them…Smile.
I have not thought any of this out but I am sure that if enough people did this. If enough people posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and if you count Google+, we may have a chance of changing the vibe. Even if it is just your state, wouldn’t that be enough? Seriously. Wouldn’t it be enough to see the people you love smile? Have something good to talk about? I know it would make me happy, seeing my friends happy and talking about positive things instead of the broken world. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see strangers smiling too?
Maybe just maybe our gratitude for what we have in life could start a chain of influencing others to be grateful. Maybe, just maybe it can spread a little. Maybe just maybe it can have an impact on someone who desperately needs it. So, here it goes, I will start…..
I am grateful for the opportunity to write this to you doing what I feel God lead me to do, in hopes of helping just one person.
I am grateful for my loving, supportive and wonderful fiancee Karen for truly showing me love. I am grateful she stood by me while I walked in Hell. I am grateful she walks in the light with me now..
I am grateful for my mother who showed me unconditional love when I did not deserve it. I am grateful for her being there for me no matter what was going on.
I am grateful fo my home. Yes, it provides shelter, but it feels like home. I feel welcome here. It is a blessing we have this home.
I am grateful for my health. Not long ago I believed I would die soon. I now have life.
I am grateful for my business partners. Because Of them, their friendship and support, I get to live out my dreams.
I am thankful for forgiveness. Without it, I would have never experienced. Christ love and genuine Joy in my life.
I am grateful for Sema, an elderly Muslim woman who took me in and gave me shelter. She took way less money than even she needed for rent to give me a home and allow me to get on my feet.
I am grateful for my dogs. Yes, I love them so much. Those little farts….literally.
I am grateful for opportunities and the ability and courage to seek them out.
I am grateful for you, for reading this, for the possibility of you recognizing gratitude even during times like this.
Now, your turn.
I would love your feedback! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. God bless you!
